Get HazeNow on your device.

Free and open source. No ads, no tracking, no account. Nothing here goes through an app store yet, so each option has a couple of extra steps. We've kept them short.

  1. iPhone and iPad

    Available

    Two ways, both free, no App Store needed. Use one or both.

    1. The app, on your Home Screen

    The full HazeNow, installed from Safari. It works offline and opens like any other app.

    1. Open HazeNow in Safari.
    2. Tap Share, the square with an arrow. On iOS 26, tap ••• first, then Share.
    3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen, then Add.

    2. A widget, with Scriptable

    A Home Screen and Lock Screen widget, through the free Scriptable app.

    1. Install Scriptable from the App Store. It's free.
    2. Open our script, select all and copy. Or tap Copy script below.
    3. In Scriptable, tap +, paste, name it HazeNow and tap Done. Tap ▶ once to allow location (optional).
    4. Long-press your Home Screen, tap +, pick Scriptable, choose a size and tap Add Widget.
    5. Tap the new widget and set Script to HazeNow.

  2. Android

    Beta

    The app, with Home Screen widgets, a Quick Settings tile and calm band alerts. Android 8 or newer.

    1. Tap Download for Android below and open the file when it's done.
    2. The first time, Android asks whether your browser may install apps. Tap Settings, turn on Allow from this source, then go back. You only do this once.
    3. Tap Install. If Android shows an extra safety check for apps from outside an app store, follow its steps.

    Get updates automatically with Obtainium (optional)

    Obtainium is a free, open-source app that installs updates straight from our GitHub releases.

    1. Install Obtainium from its GitHub releases or F-Droid.
    2. On your phone, tap Add to Obtainium below. Or in Obtainium, tap Add app and paste https://github.com/yongquantan/hazenow.
    3. Obtainium checks for new versions and tells you when one is ready.

  3. Mac

    Beta

    ● 105 ▲ in your menu bar, with an optional pill beside the notch. macOS 14 or newer.

    1. Tap Download for Mac below. Double-click the zip to unzip it.
    2. Drag HazeNow into your Applications folder, then open it.
    3. macOS says “HazeNow” Not Opened because Apple could not verify “HazeNow” is free of malware. Click Done.
    4. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security. Scroll down to Security. Next to the line “HazeNow” was blocked to protect your Mac, click Open Anyway. The button stays there for about an hour after you tried.
    5. Click Open Anyway again and enter your password. From now on, HazeNow opens normally.

    Why the warning? HazeNow is free, and we don't pay Apple's US$99 a year to have it verified. The code is open, so anyone can check it.

    No warning: use SwiftBar instead

    A one-file menu bar plugin with the same reading. It runs inside SwiftBar, so macOS doesn't ask.

    1. Install SwiftBar: brew install --cask swiftbar, then pick a plugin folder.
    2. Download hazenow.2m.py into that folder.
    3. Run chmod +x hazenow.2m.py in that folder. The reading appears in your menu bar.

  4. Any browser

    Live

    The full HazeNow on Windows, Linux, Chromebooks and anything else with a browser. In Chrome or Edge, use Install app in the address bar to keep it in your dock or taskbar.

  5. Command line

    Available

    The reading in your terminal, tmux or starship. Needs Node 18 or newer.

    Then run hazenow, or hazenow --oneline for ● 105 ▲. hazenow --help lists the rest.

  6. Home Assistant

    Available

    Sensors for PM2.5, band, verdict and NEA's 24-hr PSI, for home and each region.

    With HACS

    1. In HACS, open ⋮ → Custom repositories.
    2. Add the HazeNow integration repository with type Integration, then install HazeNow. (HACS needs the integration's own repository; see the install guide.)
    3. Restart Home Assistant. Go to Settings → Devices & services → Add integration → HazeNow.

    Or by hand

    1. Download the zip below and unzip it into your Home Assistant config folder, so you get config/custom_components/hazenow.
    2. Restart, then add HazeNow under Devices & services.
